Soldier is a rare experience that is far more than the state, which has been outlined by the editorial comments. This is a bolt taken by a strong warrior into his possess humanity. I cannot even count the number of times that I have watched this movie, but I know it is more than twenty. I witness more each time.

Kurt Russell’s unbelievable and noteworthy acting skills fabricate Sergeant Todd valid. Successfully creating a character without dialogue is an art — and he mastered it. This movie provides insight into today’s violent world as well.

Todd has known nothing but war or training since he was born. He was conscripted in the hospital; he never knew treasure, or laughter, or how to play. He obeyed orders and did not narrate unless spoken to. The perfect soldier could not have emotions. If the only procedure to waste an enemy was to raze innocent victims, then he did what was required.

Todd is the best soldier of the “worn timers,” and he has been bested a modern, genetically engineered soldier. One of the most poignant scenes is on the world where he was dumped for dull. The survivors that created a life on Arcadia are nervous to have a soldier in their midst, and ask Todd why he is there alone. He stands, no expression on his faces, and says, “I was replaced by a better soldier, Sir.”

Although he acknowledges that he is no longer valid enough to be a soldier, as his body heals he works to grow stronger and returns to the training rituals that have ruled his entire life. As he sees the interaction in the group that saved him, he is conflicted by emotions that he never experienced. When asked what he conception about, he says, “Dismay. Scare and training.”

It is extremely painful for him to be exiled from these people because he is too strong, and his violent training is too hazardous. He does not understand what he feels. This is my celebrated scene. He is alone in his exile, sitting in a concrete drainpipe with tears running down his face. He wipes the tears away, and with the skill of a broad actor, Russell shows that he does not even know what they are.

The arrogant commander of the novel soldiers considers Arcadia the perfect first “war.” Anyone on the planet was considered hostile. Three soldiers attacked the diminutive group, killing without provocation. They have no hope until Todd returns and saves the group. When he is asked what he would do, he says, “Ruin them all, Sir.” He will not let the group aid him because “A soldier deserves a soldier.”

Good writing means that the hero must have an enemy equal to his abilities, and this has titanic writing. In facing the final soldier, Todd’s intelligence wins the battle.

I am passionate about this movie. The acting, location, special effects, and depth procure five stars.

Victoria Tarrani

It’s a 10. Proper acting by Kurt Russell; directed by Paul Anderson, genius slow _Blade Runner_. He captured the essence of dictatorship and its opposite: individualism. Initially the protagonist, Todd, follows orders, feeble as a means to the ends of the Status, a fighting machine who’s then discarded. But Todd survives being dumped on a heap of refuse on a desert planet, to construct his draw to a tiny settlement of free people. There he learns what it means to have selfish values and to fancy a woman. When the totalitarians return to threaten her, only Todd can extinguish them. Fight scenes and interpersonal dynamics were masterfully done. This is not a simplistic action movie with bullets flying everywhere. This is action melded with colorful strategy, melded with a deep philosophical message. A sci fi classic, legal along with Blade Runner.

The film purports to be based on correct events. The saga of the Johnston gang, a “family” of burglars based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and reigned circa 1980 and then unfolded into kill happened while I was in high school. The legend got vast play in the Philadelphia set and some national coverage. Oddly enough this movie was filmed in Tennessee. Also great is that when this film was released in 1986 it didn’t even net a theatrical race in Philly. I had to wait until it was released later that year on home video before I saw it. Gain in mind that at the time Sean Penn was not the esteemed Academy award winning actor he is now but was better known as Madonna’s husband. Christopher Walken, despite the Oscar he won for “The Deer Hunter”, was a marketing challenge for Hollywood. As for the film itself, it perfectly captures the essence of the events and the position it occurred. I worked arrive Lancaster County around that time and my unhurried brother-in-law was from the situation and came to Philly because the mills had closed there. You can imagine if you were a young person at that time the desolation you might feel and Penn perfectly captures that restlessness. You can also imagine how someone like him would be drawn to a charismatic, albeit sinister, father figure as assayed here by Walken. Walken’s Brad Sr. is one of his sizable portrayals in an impressive career. With slight histrionics or tics Walken embodies outrageous incarnate. There is also an satisfactory supporting cast here with Mary Stuart Masterson as Penn’s innocent girlfriend, Chris Penn and Crispin Glover as Penn’s buddies, and Tracey Walter as Walken’s brother as standouts. This is most definitely one of the better and more underrated films of the eighties. Credit should also go to director James Foley and scriptwriter Nicholas Kazan for not only delivering a powerhouse film but for also getting it true.

At Finish Range, which is based on a true-crime chronicle from the 1980’s, centers on the relationship between Brad Jr. (Sean Penn) and Brad Sr. (Christopher Walken) . The younger Brad has a mess of a life, has no direction, and lives with his mom and a boyfriend who resents her pot-smoking grown children. Along with his brother Tommy (played by Penn’s real-life brother, Chris Penn), Brad Jr. turns to his dad as a father-figure for an intro to the family business of small-time crime. Tensions hurry high has Brad Jr. is forced to faced the factual demon his father is, and Brad Sr. has no qualms about hurting or murdering anyone, including Tommy (the bastard son) and his fill son’s girlfriend.

The is a gritty movie with broad questions about family ties and what to do with your life when you have no genuine options. Most of the cast was relatively unknown at the time, so check out actors like Kiefer Sutherland, Crispin Glover, and Mary Stuart Masterson at the beginning of the careers.

Well, I got my copy a week early and all I can teach you is that it is the best shot and produced Macca DVD/video to date. The band is strong and does what they need to do. Those who saw the concerts left with a bit of the magic from those shows, and I contemplate they will all be thrilled with the DVD. The song choices are the best that have been released on video yet. You rep some of the very best Beatles stuff (we can argue forever on what was left out here) along with the best Wings and solo works. In the waste, you only have so considerable time, but you come by a gargantuan overview of an wonderful career. Paul’s announce and playing have never sounded better.

It was map icy to behold the sound check stuff with a very relaxed Paul on his Les Paul playing the veteran Bo Diddley classic, “Bring It To Jerome.”

There is a touching tribute to John (Here Today) and George (Something solo on ukele) . George was an accomplished ukele player and Paul’s tribute is original and does not wallow in despair over the very heavy losses through the years.

All I can really say is that this DVD beats all the other McCartney concert DVD’s of the past.

The concert I went to was spacious. All of the reviewers of this DVD appear to be reviewing the concerts they attended. My argument is with the DVD version. This DVD is lousy. First of all the stage is too shaded. Suited DVDs bathe the stage in lots and lots of light. Hard to leer the performers the intention the stage is lit. Second, grand of it is grainy, as if the director was going for an arty execute. And what is with the constant cuts, in performances, to adoring fans? Yes we savor the music but really, Paul and the band should be the display – not the adoring fans. A slight bit is comely but shots of the fans seem to invent up an abominable lot of the reveal, and they maintain popping up when the main focus should be the music and the band. I plan I was watching a fan club function. And why the recurring shots from the wait on of the hall? A DVD with recurring shots of the TV screens gradual the performers? And the terminate ups of the players are rarely legal close-ups. Didn’t they have any hand held camera operators? It looks like all of the discontinuance ups are zooms from the wait on or sides of the hall.

For grand DVD concerts, well lit, check out the Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon, the All Star Tribute to Brian Wilson, Roger Waters in the Flesh Live, or Elton John One Night Only. These are shapely examples of how it should be done.

The whole thing looks like a partial upgrade from a home movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Paul McCartney – Back in the U.S.! Click Here

The music though …. the music rates 5 stars. I savor this music.

However, the purpose of a DVD is to bring the sights and the music to you at home. It fails miserably on the “bring the sights” fragment of the equation, unless your valuable interest is constant shots of fans.

A disappointment. I’ll turn off the TV and listen.

Season five of The Andy Griffith Note goes to both extremes for me. On the one hand, it includes two of my least current episodes (”Aunt Bee’s Romance” and “Family Visit”) ; but, on the other hand, it has my all-time accepted TAGS episode “The Case of the Punch in the Nose” and one of my top ten “Man in the Middle.” Season 5 was the final gloomy & white episode and last season with Barney Fife as a regular character. Many fans probably discontinuance watching TAGS after this season which is dejected because the color seasons are very underrated. Luckily, Season Six is going to be released on DVD May 9, so definitely check it out! Now, on to season five:

“Opie Loves Helen”: Every season opened with an episode featuring Opie. In this one, Opie develops a crush on Miss Crump.

“Barney’s Physical”: It’s Barney’s fifth anniversary on Andy’s force and it may be his last year as he is an poke and a few pounds away from passing the novel physical requirements for lawmen. Trivia: When producer Aaron Ruben left the demonstrate this season, he was given a plaque with a 5 on it objective like the folks had engraved on Barney’s peek.

“Family Visit”: Barney doesn’t appear in this episode. Unfortunately, Aunt Bee’s sister, brother-in-law, and nephews do, and they are annoying as all git-out.

“The Education of Ernest T Bass”: Ernest T. Bass wants to label his sweet Romeena by getting an education so he ends up in Helen Crump’s class and begins to regard her as a mother figure.

“Aunt Bee’s Romance”: An ragged boyfriend of Aunt Bee’s approach and he is even more annoying than her relatives in “Family Visit.” He’s a person who is always cracking abominable jokes and is never serious. Fortunately, Andy recognizes his unpleasant intentions. This episode includes the notorious Calvin Coolidge/Mark Twain/the weather scene between Andy and Floyd.

“Barney’s Bloodhound”: Barney tries to issue a dog named Blue in tracking down an escaped criminal. Trivia: Howard Morris (Ernest T Bass) is the express of the radio announcer and Leonard Blush.

“Man in the Middle”: One of my all-time faves! Barney is about to atomize up with Thelma Lou, Andy tries to support Barney by agreeing with him when he says maybe he and Thelma Lou weren’t meant for each other, Barney blabs this to Thelma Lou when they patch things up, Thelma Lou gets aroused at Andy and then gets exasperated at Helen when she says she’s acting childish, Barney gets wrathful at Andy for taking Helen’s side, Andy refers to Helen as a “third party,” Barney blabs this to Helen who gets excited at Andy for not referring to her by name (”My name is Helen Crump, C-R-U-M-P”) …Trust me, it’s objective silly!

“Barney’s Uniform”: Bully Fred Plummer tells Barney he’s going to pop him one if he catches him out of uniform, so Barney is timid to be seen in civvies. Luckily, Barney is taking karate lessons in Mt. Pilot with Mr. Izamoto.

“Opie’s Forune”: Opie discovers a wallet with fifty dollars in it. After waiting a week, he believes the money is his. Then Barney reads an announcement in Lost and Found about a missing wallet. I don’t care for this one because Andy automatically thinks the worst of Opie.

“Goodbye, Sheriff Taylor”: Andy considers taking a job in Raleigh and leaves Barney in charge…poor proceed. Trivia: First time Goober wears that goofy beanie.

“The Pageant”: Aunt Bee wants the portion of Lady Mayberry in the Centennial Pageant but Clara, like she is in most things, is the kindly actress. I like that piece when Aunt Bee calls Chief Noogatuck, Nungatook.

“The Darling Baby”: The Darlings return to town with Charlene’s baby daughter Andelina hoping to gather her zigzag up to a future mate…Opie.

“Andy and Helen Have Their Day”: Barney wants to give Andy and Helen the gift of Saturday where they can relax at Myer’s Lake and he will bustle all their errands. Of course, he keeps interrupting them with trivial matters and then believes they are engaged. Howard Morris appears as the TV repairman.

“Three Wishes for Opie”: Barney buys a fortune-telling kit at an auction and thinks Count Istvan Teleky is granting them wishes. Like in the previous episode, this ultimately results in Barney believing Andy and Helen are engaged.

“Otis Sues the County”: Otis falls at the jail and a slick lawyer tries to originate him maintain that, by suing the county, he will be helping his friends Barney and Andy.

“Barney Fife, Realtor”: Barney gets into a sideline realty business and tries to accept everybody to sell their houses and depart into other houses.

“Goober Takes a Car Apart”: Goober is snort to be in charge of the courthouse but speedster Gilly keeps hounding him to fix his car. Caught between two responsibilities, Goober takes apart and rebuilds Gilly’s car in the courthouse.

“The Rehabilitation of Otis”: Barney tries to utilize psychology to relieve Otis accept over his drinking predicament. He ends up tantalizing him out of “tough like” and Otis gets so aroused he decides to give his business to another jail. I like the scene where they bewitch the Rorschach test and argue over whether the card is a bat or butterfly.

“Lucky Letter”: Barney thinks he’s doomed at the firing range because Andy convinced him not to send a chain letter. Now Barney’s not superstitious, he’s objective cautious.

“Goober and the Art of Appreciate”: Andy and Barney convince Goober to date Lydia Crosswaith who turns out to be a bore and sticks her head out of the car window like a dog.

“Barney Runs for Sheriff”: When Andy’s job in South America falls through, he runs for sheriff as a write-in. Barney is supposed to speed fair a token campaign, but goes overboard.

“If I Had a Quarter Million”: Barney stumbles upon a suitcase with $250,000 and tries to play it off as a newly rich to entice the crook out of hiding.

“TV or Not TV”: Bogus television producers reach to town pretending to be enthusiastic in creating a series based on the life of the sheriff without a gun. Their main intentions have to do with the Mayberry bank. Gavin McLeod appears.

“Guest in the House”: A gorgeous, young, female friend of the family stays with the Taylors and, of course, Helen goes off.

“The Case of the Punch in the Nose”: Best TAGS episode ever! Barney runs across a 19-year old-fashioned assault case that was never properly closed and brings assist all the hard feelings leading to a schism in the town and numerous nose punches. The Bobby Gribble, Emma Larch scene is classic.

“Opie’s Newspaper”: Opie and Howie try to widen their scope by creating a column like “Mayberry After Midnight.”

“Aunt Bee’s Invisible Beau”: Clara gets Aunt Bee thinking she’s getting in the blueprint of Andy and Helen’s romance so she makes up that she’s dating the butter-and-egg-man. Barney puts a gigantic crack in her plans when he finds out Aunt Bee’s pretend beau is married.

“The Arrest of the Fun Girls”: Andy and Barney arrest the fun girls and try to cover their presence from Thelma Lou and Helen.

“The Luck of Newton Monroe”: Don Rickles plays a traveling salesman who can’t seem to fetch a fracture, well, keep for the things that he breaks himself.

“Opie Flunks Arithmetic”: Opie is having problems in arithmetic and, thanks to know-it-all Barney, Andy overreacts and makes things worse.

“Opie and the Carnival”: Opie hopes to bag his pa an electric razor at ashooting gallery but is cheated by bent carnies.

“Banjo-Playing Deputy”: Jerry Van Dyke is an unemployed carnival musician who happens to be related to a friend of Aunt Bee, so Bee convinces Andy to compose the klutzy, stammering loser his deputy. Luckily, that didn’t last and we would gather Warren Ferguson (swear) in season 6.

The fifth season of “The Andy Griffith Expose” (1964-1965) is yet another admirable and very laughable year in the eight-season lifespan of this beloved television comedy series. Season #5 is presented in its complete fabricate on the five discs that get up this heavenly DVD position from Paramount Home Entertainment. And each of these 32 episodes looks dazzling, too. Obliging video and audio quality.

All 32 show-closing epilogues are fully intact in this DVD collection (unlike Season 3, which has a acquire few missing) . And as far as I can pronounce, short of digging up each modern script (somehow) and checking all shows word for word, these episodes appear to be “uncut”. I can’t look any discernible edits, despite a disclaimer at Paramount’s webpage for this release that says: “Some episodes may be edited from their fresh network versions”.

However, that same “edits” disclaimer is not included on the benefit of this Season-Five box (as it was on the S.3 box, which does own a few edits) . Perhaps Paramount was impartial putting a needless ‘fear of God’ into fans for no safe reason. Beats me. But these shows gape pleasing (and complete) to me.

The average accelerate time per episode here is about 25:30, with the shortest running time being approximately 24:35. So, if there are any “cuts” to these episodes, it must not add up to very powerful total footage, that’s for definite. There are very few eps. in this situation that bustle under 25 pudgy minutes.

Also on the subject of “edits” — Each of these thirty-two shows does possess its current laugh track (unlike the Season-Four TAGS situation, which has a few laugh tracks missing) . I diligently checked each and every Season-Five program to peruse if the laughter is display on the soundtrack….and it is there for all episodes, which is as it should be. I like the shows better with the laughter in the background (canned or otherwise) . ;)

Opening & Closing Credits ….. It appears to me that all of the originally-aired opening and closing titles (credits) are feeble for this Season-Five DVD spot. Although it’s sure that the Main Title opening sequence was actually filmed years before this 1964-’65 season, because Opie’s much-younger age in the credits is quite noticeable. A unusual explain opening wasn’t created between seasons 2 and 5, so the precise same one that was filmed in 1961 (prior to the begin of the second season) was faded for all of those years.

The unique whistling theme music seems to be fully intact here, on both the opening and closing portions of each episode; and the CBS-TV “Explore” (logo) has been left intact on these Andy Griffith prints as well.

Despite the few edits and laugh-track omissions in previous releases, Paramount (in my belief) has done themselves proud with “The Andy Griffith Demonstrate” on DVD. I know I shall indulge in these TAGS season sets for many, many years to near.

This fifth “Andy” season (which was the last year of the series to be filmed in black-and-white) is filled with comic and enduring Mayberry antics, located within such memorable episodes as …. “Barney’s Uniform”, “Family Visit”, “Barney’s Physical”, “Three Wishes For Opie”, “Barney Fife, Realtor”, “The Case Of The Punch In The Nose”, “Goodbye, Sheriff Taylor”, “The Arrest Of The Fun Girls”, “Opie Loves Helen”, and “If I Had A Quarter-Million”.

That “Quarter-Million” episode features one of my current lines of spoken dialogue from the series. After another of Barney’s frequent mishaps with his revolver, Andy asks his deputy: “You want to give me your pants? I’ll retract them to the artistic weavers”. :)

Some Barney Banter:

Season Five of “The Andy Griffith Explain” marks the kill of an era — the “Barney Fife” era, that is. Sadly for “T.A.G.S.” fans, Emmy-winning actor Don Knotts, who played Mayberry’s clumsy but lovable one-bullet-carrying Deputy Fife for the first five years of the series, left the note as a regular cast member after this fifth season of the indicate, in order to pursue a career in the movies.

================================================

EDIT (FEBRUARY 26, 2006) — The news came fair one day after I submitted this Amazon review that Don Knotts had passed away at the age of 81. It’s quite ironic (and fitting) that this DVD plot containing Don’s last season as a regular on “TAGS” would be made available to the public unbiased days prior to Don’s passing. Fans of Mr. Knotts (and Barney Fife) can now bask in all 159 episodes that compose up the first 5 fabulous “Barney Fife years” of “The Andy Griffith Indicate”, the TV series that made Don a household name in the early 1960s.

Actor Andy Griffith, Knotts’ partner in fighting crime in Mayberry from 1960 to 1965, had been a very generous friend of Don’s for many decades. Griffith, age 79, visited Don in the hospital shortly before his death.

“Don was a shrimp man, but everything else about him was large: his mind, his expressions,” Griffith told The Associated Press on Saturday (02/25/2006) .

“Don was special. I loved him very powerful,” Griffith added. “We had a long and incredible life together.”

Don Knotts was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on July 21, 1924. During an acting career that spanned more than half-a-century, he appeared in many TV series and more than 25 motion pictures.

One of Don’s very first TV roles was when he played “Wilbur Peterson” from 1953 to 1955 on the daytime soap opera “Search For Tomorrow”.

Some of Don’s funniest television work (other than as “B. Fife” of course) came during his frequent appearances on “The Steve Allen Display” in the slack 1950s, when he would appear in comedy sketches as “The Nervous Man”. Don was hilarious in those skits, which were unbiased tailor-made to suit his skittish, fidgety acting style.

Don Knotts’ death on February 24, 2006, in Los Angeles, was due to pulmonary and respiratory complications. He will forever be missed; but, thankfully, he left tedious his Barney Fife legacy on film, and Paramount Home Entertainment has done a bang-up job at preserving all of the Barney episodes of “TAGS” in crystal-clear clarity on DVD-Video.

================================================

Barney Fife returned to Mayberry as a guest star in several post-Season 5 Andy Griffith episodes (which all did very well in the ratings for CBS) ; but that fair left Barney-admirers wanting to contemplate more of the wiry lawman during those last three seasons. For me, the point to unprejudiced wasn’t the same after pleasurable ol’ “Barn” left for greener (movie) pastures. And I know a lot of other TAGS fans agree with that assessment as well.

Don Knotts won five Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Mayberry’s mostly-inept (but always amusing) town deputy. It’s noteworthy he survived all those seasons on the Griffith Prove, isn’t it (what with that super-itchy trigger finger of his)? ~wink~

Over the course of those five fat seasons he appeared on “TAGS”, Don Knotts practically BECAME “Bernard Fife”, playing the portion so perfectly in every episode it’s no wonder he was singled out for excellence with those multiple Emmy trophies. “Barney Fife” is truly one of television’s seminal characters in the history of that medium. And, well, somehow, replacing a Barney Fife with a Deputy Warren Ferguson is kind of like replacing Charlton Heston with Pee Wee Herman in “Ben-Hur”. ~grin~

In the episode “Barney’s Uniform”, Don has to show a whole range of Barney Fife’s emotions — from humor, to arouse, to embarrassment, to cowardliness, to tenderness, and finally courage, as he eventually stands up to his nemesis (”Fred Plummer”) in that episode.

Plummer was played by Allan Melvin, who was cast in numerous different parts on TAGS over the years, including a character in the third-year episode “Lawman Barney” who was very similar to Fred Plummer. The “Lawman” ep. was yet another time when Barney was forced to summon his inner courage to ward off a troublemaker. And, as always, Don Knotts’ performance as Deputy Fife in that “Lawman” installment is astounding to survey…as he believably goes from “old sister” to “genuine police officer performing his duty well” in impartial 25 minutes’ time.

At the slay of “Barney’s Uniform”, yet another facet of Barney’s character emerges — his good-sized ego — when he says this to Andy after having fair engaged in a victorious confrontation with Mr. Plummer…..

“I told him the same thing I told you — I’m a symbol of the law whether I’m wearin’ a uniform or the ol’ salt-and-pepper. He gives me complete respect or else. He got the message. You know, the bigger they are, the bigger they crumble.”

Now, in the hands of a lesser talent than that of Jesse Donald Knotts, those words I unprejudiced quoted above probably wouldn’t seem laughable at all….they’d unprejudiced seem irritable and arrogant. But coming from Don/Barney, it’s a different legend. Don had a truly current method of being able to perfectly blend the seemingly-unblendable combination of “a sizable ego” and “likability”. And not many actors could have pulled that off for five consecutive years. But it seemed second nature to Mr. Knotts.

For, no matter how stuck on himself Barney Fife was, Don Knotts always allowed room for that adjective — “likable” — to gather its design into that character he was portraying every week on CBS-TV. And I’ve yet to meet the person who didn’t like Bernard Fife quite a bit. A truly considerable character in the long history of television.

Thanks, Don, for radiant how to assume and act like Barney Fife.

————

The Season-Five DVD packaging is consistent with the earlier “TAGS” seasons produced by Paramount, which I like very considerable …. although the cut-and-paste photos on this box shroud aren’t my favorites. (Andy wearing a necktie?! Egads, that’s unprejudiced silly-looking! Andy hardly ever wore a tie. But that, of course, is fair a very minor packaging quibble however. But, IMO, the Season-One and Season-Four DVD artwork are the best ones that Paramount has done for this TV series.)

I very worthy like the innards of the fifth-season packaging however, consisting of three slim plastic cases for the five discs (with fresh artwork on each of the three cases) . Episode titles are located on the befriend of each slim case, printed on a simulated “Parking Citation” pad, complete with Barney Fife’s signature and a puny Mayberry Sheriff’s Office motto printed at the bottom of each brand that Barney hands out to the desperate law-breakers of Mayberry — “Let that be a lesson to you” has been printed on each “sign”. LOL.

The represent that’s found on the case for Disc #5 is the best packaging photo in this collection, in my idea. It’s a very nice-looking shot of Andy, Helen, Aunt Bee, Barney, and Thelma Lou. That artwork should have been veteran on the outer box hide, IMO. It would have looked worthy better there than the composite photo that was chosen for the slipcase camouflage. Too terrible they can’t be switched around.

The discs themselves each hold unusual (albeit somewhat curious) color pictures of an assortment of “down home” items, including two things that remind us immediately of Floyd’s Barber Shop.

All episode titles are also printed on the assist of the outer box too (with corresponding disc numbers), which is a very handy “at-a-glance” feature. Each disc contains either six or seven episodes.

A Few More Stats Concerning This 5-Disc Boxed Set:

The second movie in Columbia’s newest wave of World War II movies (along with “The Caine Mutiny”) is the 1961 Academy Award-winning film for Best Special Effects, “The Guns of Navarone,” which stars Gregory Peck as Keith Mallory, the leader of a group of British commandos tasked with destroying two titanic German anti-ship guns.

The British are desperate to evacuate 2,000 soldiers from the Aegean island of Kiros, with the only sea route through a stretch of water commanded by the guns that are encased inside a massive cliffside bunker that is immune to air attack.

Based on the best selling unusual by Alistair (Where Eagles Dare) MacLean, Mallory has been working on occupied Crete for two years and as an expert mountaineer is the perfect choice to ferry the team to the only piece of Navarone not monitored by the Germans – a 400-foot cliff.

Joining Peck is David Niven as explosives expert John Anthony Miller and Anthony Quinn as a Greek resistance fighter.

MacLean is known for being able to weave together a broad myth and this movie is consistently exciting. In fact the film was already afforded a suitable special release on DVD in 2000. Columbia though have outdone themselves with this 2-disc station by adding a second audio commentary and four unique documentaries.

The novel release included a rather dry, faltering, but informative commentary by director J. Lee Thompson, a smattering of archival featurettes of varying quality and an anecdotal documentary on the making of the relate featuring on-camera interviews with Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, James Darren and J. Lee Thompson named “Memories of Navarone” and running at 29:34. It’s a nice, breezy documentary and interesting – detailing some of the experiences the cast had working on the describe.

However this recent release includes a bright commentary with historian Stephen J. Rubin who mentions that this film started the trend of Hollywood going outdoors. Up until this time most movies were filmed on the studios backlot, whereas this movie was filmed on the island of Rhodes. He also discusses the cast (including a very young Richard Harris) . Rubin also discusses some of the differences between the MacLean original and the movie – which appear to be a number of changes to characterization and details some of the criticisms of the movie when it was released – including the fact that the actors were too former to play commando’s, many being as they were in their 40s and 50s. Though Rubin rapid adds that he feels it was cast perfectly.

Also included are two fresh documentaries, the first of these “Forging the Guns of Navarone” runs at 13:58 and includes on camera interviews with Eve Williams-Jones (the used wife of producer Carl Foreman) and Assistant Director Peter Yates (who himself went on to become a very successful director in his contain true) . Apparently Thompson was not the unique director for the project and Yates credits Thompson for his ability to jump straight into a film that had already shot remarkable of its second unit work as well as his ability to manage so many grand name actors. Yates also reveals that despite their on-screen animosity towards each other, both Niven and Peck got along well together definite to have as worthy fun as possible on the represent. Yates also recounts how the crew would refer to it as “The biggest B-feature ever made.”

The second modern documentary “The Ironic Yarn of Heroism” runs longer at 23:38 and is essentially an on-camera analysis of the movie by distinguished Film Historian Sir Christopher Frayling (who was mistakenly credited with providing an audio commentary in the press release for this DVD release) . Frayling is quite piquant as he recounts such facts as Foreman’s initial reluctance to handle the project. Foreman once said that he was incapable of making a movie that did not get statements and he initially saw the MacLean book as a simple action adventure. It was not until he re-read the original that he realized it could succor to produce statements about the futility of war and the ability of war to bring out the best in people.

Frayling also reflects on the fact that the movie was the first global production caper-style World War II movie to be played as an action adventure in a style he describes as “incredibly innovative.”

Also included on this original release is the restored intermission with procure that was seen in some European cities (it is listed as an extra since it is not piece of the official carve of the movie) and featurettes on the Dimitri Tiomkin collect which details the subtle differences throughout the movie and a piquant view at the UCLA restoration.

The restoration featurette details the tortured path towards restoring a film that was in such awful shape that they needed several sources of current negative, both from Columbia and a private collector. In an example of the work the UCLA team had to do, the print they were provided by Columbia had the plane wreck at the beginning of the movie happen in large daylight. This apparently is how most people have seen the scene in novel years. That was until one of the eagle-eyed team at UCLA noticed that one of the trucks had it’s headlights on and wondered why. Clear enough they were able to track down a copy of the print from a private collector that showed that the demolish happened at night with the cover various shades of blue – and that is how it was restored.

In another instance the print UCLA had also had the corrupt dubbing of Richard Harris where the censor had the word “bloody” replaced with “ruddy” for some of the screenings in the UK (the word “bloody” is considered a sigh word in the UK) . The UCLA team prevailed again and were able to locate a copy of the factual audio quiet intact) .

On a sidenote the DVD also affords fans of Tiomkin the opportinity to hear the opening sequence sans the legend as a special feature on the second disc. This apparently is a special feature that had been requested for years.

The Guns of Navarone is a astonishing film that touches upon the direct of how difficult it can be to beget true choices during the course of a war. The screenplay is lively in the sense that every major character in the film has their enjoy notions of objective how far they should go in applying the significant force “to accept the job done” in a war.

The movie is about six saboteurs who must waste two great guns, which explain a distress to the Allied Navy. At the very beginning of the movie, viewers immediately have their first taste of a true pickle when Commodore Jensen, the organizer of the mission, has to choose between sending six estimable men to an almost disastrous and suicidal mission or simply scrapping the mission and leaving 2,000 trapped British soldiers to a clear doom. Commodore Jensen sees the choice as a foregone conclusion and thus resorts to lying to the leaders of the mission in order to boost their confidence. Jensen however does feel the effort of leadership as he tells a fellow officer “I’m unbiased a man who has to send men off to die”.

The six saboteurs each have their fresh specialties and views of morality. The first saboteur is Captain Mallory, the best mountain climber in the world and a competent linguist. Captain Mallory is a soldier who now has a utilitarian conception of the world and no longer sees the world as dim or white. The second saboteur is Major Roy Franklin who is known for his luck and determination. Roy is as focused to the mission as Mallory, only he does not appear to be so in the eyes of his friend Corporal Miller, the third saboteur. Corporal Miller is the self-righteous chemical explosives expert whose philanthropic perception of the world directs his loyalty only to his friends and himself. The fourth is Private Brown “the Butcher of Barcelona” whose specialties are working with engines and using a knife. Although Brown is a seasoned musty with many kills under his belt, he has become wary of the war. The fifth saboteur is Colonel Stavros. Stavros, like Mallory and Franklin, focuses to the task at hand, but is also ever thoughtful of his personal vendettas. Finally, the last saboteur is Private Pappadimos, whom Jensen describes as a “born killer”.

The accurate views of the six saboteurs will clash with each other several times during the movie as they debate about how to conduct a war and deal with human life. The upright perceptions even present to be the undoing of some of the men. The beauty of the movie is that ultimately the ongoing theme of morality further extends to the two women who later join the mission. Even the Germans are not exempt from this theme as the “normal” German soldier’s character contrasts itself sharply from that of the inhumane SS officer.

It is not surprisingly to catch that many world leaders indulge in watching The Guns of Navarone, since here is a film that touches upon an tell that is constantly ever-present in their minds. The burden of choosing the fates of others is after all, a burden that is felt by both the commander and the individual soldier alike.

The superbit version of The Guns of Navarone is an improvement over the first regular DVD release. The noticeable improvement is found mainly in the sound. A particular standout scene in terms of sound is where Stavros uses his sniper rifle to give camouflage against the advancing German Army. The superbit portray quality while an improvement over the regular DVD release, is not as noticeably marvelous as the superbit sound quality.

“Strangers on a Inform” is that rarity, an Alfred Hitchcock film concerning which one talks about an actor’s performance almost as powerful as the director’s. The actor, of course, is Robert Walker, presenting his considerable portrayal of Bruno Anthony, the rich, unstable man who offers the hero Guy Haines a deadly proposition: he’ll destroy Guy’s wife Miriam (played by the engaging Laura Elliott) if Guy will end Bruno’s father. Because they are strangers on a voice who do not know their intended victims, there will be no motives, therefore perfect alibis. Guy doesn’t lift Bruno seriously, which turns out to be a fatal mistake. Bruno is a complicated portion. Although he is obssessed with his occupy superiority, he can be incredibly petty (popping a diminutive boy’s balloon honest for the meanness of it), not to mention prissy (”I’m apprehensive I don’t know what a `smoocher’ is!”) . The character seems to overshadow the entire movie, which is appropriate, because Bruno casts a shadow over the easy, affluent world in which he lives. When he crashes the senator’s cocktail party, it’s like Satan has arrived, striding through polite society. And, no, Walker was not nominated for an Oscar. Neither was Joseph Cotten for “Shadow of a Doubt”. Neither was Anthony Perkins for “Psycho”. The Academy evidently had wretchedness with Hitchcock’s anti-heroes. Hitchcock originally wanted William Holden for the role of Guy Haines, but I reflect Holden was so savvy and macho, it would have been difficult to secure him as a psycopath’s pawn. Farley Granger is atheletic enough to be convincing as a tennis champ, but he has a boyishness which makes the vulnerable aspects of the character believable. The film is filled with the touches one associates with Hitchcock. Some are determined, like Miriam’s strangulation reflected in her eyeglasses. Others are more subtle: After the slay, Bruno approaches Guy outside Guy’s apartment house. At first Guy cannot inform who is calling his name in the sunless. Bruno is standing advance a titanic gate with wrought-iron bars; and, as Guy comes advance him, he steps tedious the gate — in other words, he’s unhurried bars. Then, after he has told Guy about Miriam’s death and Guy is lively the shock, a police car pulls up in front of Guy’s apartment house and Guy himself ducks unhurried the gate. Now they’re BOTH slow bars. Hitchcock was a genius, no doubt about it.I wonder how many viewers have noticed the queer discrepency reach the waste. Bruno has stepped off the deny at Metcalf, holding the incriminating cigarette lighter he hopes to plant on the amusement park island, thus framing Guy. A pedestrian brushes by him and the lighter falls into a storm drain in the street. Bruno, frantic, tries to enlist the back of passersby. However, he says (not once but twice) “I dropped my cigarette CASE in the drain!” Walker, of course, was in the process of drinking himself to death; but the mistake could easily have been corrected with a cramped dubbing. It’s bothered me for years why it wasn’t.Director of Photography Robert Burks began his long association with Hitchcock on this characterize. He must have worked night and day to satisfy Hitchcock’s demands, but his loveliest attain is the amusement park’s neon lights against a resplendent black-and-white sunset. The film’s mood is enhanced by Dimitri Tiomkin’s romantically mysterious catch. It’s particularly striking in the movie’s”coda” when Guy is trying desperately to achieve a tennis game (allegro) and Bruno is desperately trying to advance that damn lighter (adagio) . Hitchcock and Tiomkin worked a couple of more times together but never more effectively than in thisdazzling masterpiece.

It’s significant to notice two things about this edition of “Strangers on a Converse.” First off, the description on Amazon.com’s page is mistaken. This DVD is not in widescreen. The second thing is, to you widescreen buffs out there (including myself) — Relax! This film was never shot in widescreen. In fact, prior to 1953 (The Robe), there was never anything bigger than 35mm! This is why this film (and you’ll be surprised to hear), many, many classic films will never be produced in widescreen. They don’t exist. You should retract this DVD because of the video quality and the extra “goodies.” Gone with the Wind in widescreen? Nope, never was, even though it was blown up to 70mm and cropped horribly in the 1968 re-issue. What’s out there on DVD on Gone with the Wind is standard 35mm “TV semi-square” framing, because that’s the map it was shot. Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Citizen Kane? Nope, never shot in anything greater than 35mm. It’s a Astonishing Life? No again. Widescreen is miniature to theatrical films issued for the most share, after 1953, when competition with television forced studios to near up with the “panoramic” gimmicks to bring people aid into the theaters. This is period (1953-1963) when Cinemascope, Todd-AO, VistaVision, Orderly Panavision 70 and other widescreen formats were born — and the most indecent example was Cinerama, which worn three cameras and is weak to best attain in the DVD version of How the West Was Won. So don’t fret, this DVD is capable, crisp and spruce and formatted as Alfred Hitchcock intended! Tomorrow’s movies will be in IMAX (leer Fantasia 2000, in selected theaters now) .

I judge that when you select the longest Harry Potter book and turn it into the shortest Harry Potter film, that a titanic number of complaints by fans as to what has been prick will be inevitable after they peer “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” Not that this means that the legions of fans will be bitterly disappointed by the film version, but rather that there will be regrets over not getting to glance approved scenes on the camouflage. For example, Quidditch is completely out of the film, denying Ron of his best moments in the sun (open singing “Weasley is our king”) . So do not be surprised when your mind keeps shifting to what has been lop and distracting you from time to time while watching this summer’s latest blockbuster.

When last we left our hero, Harry fell victim to a trap to bring aid Lord Voldermort, which cost Cedric Diggory his life. The Ministry of Magic wants things hushed up, but Dumbledore tells the students at Hogwarts that Diggory was murdered and Lord Voldermort murdered him. As this fifth film opens Harry and his depraved cousin Dudley are attacked by Dementors. Harry uses his wand to defend them and is summarily expelled from Hogwarts for using magic in front of a muggle. The marvelous news is that Harry gets reinstated, but the poor news is that the Ministry of Magic uses the opportunity to appoint Dolores Umbridge, Senior Undersecretary at the Ministry, as the school’s fresh Defense Against the Shaded Arts professor. However, Umbridge teaches only the theory and not the practice because she insists Harry is a liar and there is nothing the students need to learn to defend themselves from. Then things acquire progressively worse.

“The Order of the Phoenix” was the most maddening book to read, not because it was the longest, but because I dislike Dolores Umbridge. As far as I am concerned she makes Voldermort contemplate genuine, because he knows he is noxious, foul, unpleasant, mean and improper inside, while Umbridge thinks the ends clarify the means. She is puritanical, sadistic and hypocritical. If there were not going to be children reading this review I would remark you what I really contemplate of her. Suffice it to say, she makes me sick and I do not even purchase pleasure in loving to disapprove her, which is why my only requirement going into the film is that the Weasley Twins come by their moment of glory when they become the disloyal opposition to the fresh order at Hogwarts.

Daniel Radcliffe continues to have the tote the heavy load in these films as Harry, with Rupert Grint’s Ron Weasley being reduced more and more often to reaction shots while Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger remains the Mistress of Exposition in these films. Alan Rickman as Snape remains pitch perfect casting and Gary Oldman as Sirius Sad is also a joy to survey, but I discovered in this film that I really like Michael Gambon’s performance as Dumbledore, mainly because he always plays up the character’s intelligence and I win I seize his interpretation to that of the unhurried Richard Harris, forgive my heresy. Imelda Staunton does not eye as noteworthy like a toad as Umbridge does in the book, but she captures the character’s detestability from open to accomplish. We are always painfully aware how unsafe she is, whether she smiles or not. Also, Evanna Lynch steals more scenes as Luna Lovegood than Katie Leung does as Cho Chang, and it is certainly involving to leer Neville (Matthew Lewis) towering over everybody, with Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) in the tranquil but strong role for the pivotal sextet.

After seeing this film I raced home and got out my copy of the book and starting cataloguing things that had been slit. Such comparisons are, as I suggested up top, inevitable for anyone who has read the book. At this point what I missed the most were some of the conversations between Maggie Smith’s Professor McGonagall and Umbridge where Minerva verbally flaws the Inquisitor. The omission that I am focusing on the most is the whole bit about why Neville’s family was a target of Voldermort (I agree with Harry: always say his name and thereby slit its power), since that suggests implications for what will happen in the final book, which gets released in honest ten more days. I also would have liked to have seen an over reaction to Harry discovering his father bullied Snape at Hogwarts. My well-liked portion ends up being the impressive wizard’s duel between Voldermort and Dumbledore. Screenwriter Michael Goldenberg does a suitable job of whittling down Rowling’s book and director David Yates does a competent job, but fans will simply want more. Also, we know what happens in the next book and all of the awful things that happen in this film cannot succor but seem inconsequential in comparison. Plus, fans will be distracted by mining this film for clues as to what will happen in the last book.

I savor Harry Potter, OK? So before you freak out, let me secure that out of the map. The book version “Order of the Phoenix” was oustanding. I also assume that previous directors have done elegant gracious to titanic jobs of translating the books to film (though I must say things went a diminutive downhill once Chris Columbus left.)

All that being said, here’s the kicker:

The movie “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” played like a Cliff’s Notes adaptation of the book.

It lopped off a lot of the charm and romance and heartfelt pathos of the book— as well as a lot of the pure creative touches— in order to collect the main arc of the memoir down. On top of that, it made “adaptations” to the book in order to procure the sage intriguing along— yet all these “compromises” were actually worse than what JK Rowling originally wrote!

Don’t fill me? Here is only SOME of what is improper with this movie:

–Poor devlopment of the Harry/Cho Chang arc (The kiss is about all you pick up. No accurate feeling slack it at all. No devlopement of Harry’s crush. No final wreck up argument on Valentine’s Day.)

–Making Cho into an depraved snitch (which is why she and Harry broke up in the movie.) In the movie SHE is the one who betrays Harry. Humdrum.

–No hospital scenes. No meeting of Neville’s parents.

–Perfunctory explanation of Grimmaud Space

–Perfunctory development of Occlumency

–Harry gets to hear the prophecy while standing in the Department of Mysteries rather than later with Dumbledore. On top of this, he gets to hear the prophecy impartial by holding it in his hand. That makes no logical sense at all!

–The Department of Mysteries itself is compressed down into one room (the room with the prophecies.) All the icy rooms (with the blue lights, the 12 doors, the clocks, the brains, and so on) are all objective ignored. Those were such expansive inventions by JK Rowling–perhaps some of the most creative stuff in all the books– that I can’t bear they unprejudiced prick them!

–The room with the arch is made into a really slow situation.

–The battle scene is really short and rather tiresome.

–Snape’s memory of being tortured by James Potter and his argument with Lily Potter is compressed into literally a total of 4 seconds of film. That scence is so PIVOTAL to the rest of the book series that I can’t gain they got away with not fully developing the scene.

On top of all these region issues, the WORST section about this movie is that there was really no FEELING in it. The whole range of emotional arcs that are so well-developed in the book are done absolutely terribly in the movie. Yeah, Sirius dies. In the book, it is a devatating moment. In the movie, it’s like “Oh, well.” Harry, Ron and Hermione don’t have many moments together. There is no laughing in the movie. We don’t collect to feel pathos for Neville because his parents are insane. We don’t gather to feel the gratefulness of the Weasleys when Harry saves Mr Weasley. There are no lighthearted moments. Almost every scene except one or two that could have developed the emotional attachment we feel to the characters has been summarily excluded.

Like one other reviewer said: The movie is too short, yet it feels too long.

That is, sorry to say, a perfect description of a hack job.

I am quite disappointed.

“As Time Goes By” is the gentle, humorous chronicle of Jean Pargetter and Lionel Hardcastle, two people who conventional to be in treasure in the early fifties. When Lionel went off to fight in the Korean War, the two lost touch. They meet again 38 years later, quite by accident, and what is at first an awkward friendship slowly morphs into a warm romance.

The display first aired in 1992, and continued production through 2002. A lot had transpired in the lives of Jean & Lionel and their ever-growing extended family during those ten years, and the series ended with Jean’s daughter Judith marrying her on-again, off-again book publisher boyfriend, Alistair Deacon. Jean’s secretary Sandy moved to Canada with her boyfriend Harry for a one-year attachment to the Royal Mounties.

The Reunion Special DVD consists of two 45 exiguous episodes produced in February 2005, which pick-up where the ruin of the series left off. Judith and Alistair are trying to have kids, with nothing to explain for it, and Sandy & Harry are relieve from Canada, with Harry wanting to try out for a uncertain police job, grand to Sandy’s horror. An unexpected visitor arrives from Lionel’s past, which causes a minor inch. Many of the aged common supporting characters are serve, including Penny & Stephen, Rocky and Mrs. Bale.

I enjoyed the two specials quite a bit. They came as a welcome return to invent after the last series (season) of the exhibit. That series was only four episodes, and felt rushed. One of the hallmarks of “As Time Goes By” is its dead, gentle journey. That is once again on corpulent reveal here with these two specials. The first 45 itsy-bitsy episode is probably the better of the two. It has a small more state than the second episode, although both are generally worthy. My main qualm comes with the kill of episode two (which, at this point, constitues the waste of series) . It relies a bit too mighty on coincidence for my tastes, but that is a relatively minor quibble.

It’s rare to earn such a consistently well-produced and attractive exhibit as “As Time Goes By.” The writing, acting and directing have almost always been marvelous, and it’s a pleasure to have these two fresh specials. In fact, we’re treated to even further deepening and exploration of the Lionel character through the arrival of the person from his past, a feat which isn’t often accomplished 13 years after a character has been introduced. It’s yet another testament to the quality viewing experience that is “As Time Goes By.”

Having watched most of this series on my PBS location, and bought half the dvds here at Amazon, and the other half on vacation, I can yell you this was a welcome change to my PBS lineup one Saturday Night (they actually showed it at least 4 times already), and a welcome addition to my never ending library to commence 2006. It’s done as a 2 fraction 45 minutes each fable, with both young couples Alistair and Judith and Harry and Sandy returning to the Hardcastle home with the usually newlywed worries, the aged unnerved that they can’t have a baby, and the latter about to have one while Harry looks for a promotion. With their usually humor, the passe 50s vintage couple of Lionel and Jean area them both true. The climax comes at the ruin of piece 1 when a exquisite young Kenyan comes calling to leer “his father”. This gets resolved good away in section 2 as it turns out he’s allotment of a big family that looked to Lionel as a father for putting up money for them to live while living there. Now he’s an intern at the local London hospital. Eventually, Steven and Penny (Jean’s first husband’s sibling and in-law), Rocky (Lionel’s father) and Mrs. Bale (Rocky’s housekeeper) expose up to had more fun to this warm hearted return to a series that ran a decade on BBC and PBS and continues to rerun in many cities here. Definitely a must add to your box position (or individual installments) of the novel series.

Even though the description says Subtitled, this does NOT mean that it has the Japanese audio. It is the English Dub, with subtitles in English that you can turn on and off – Impartial like Box 1. So they really should be called “CAPTIONS” and not “Subtitles”, but it since it says ‘english subtitles’ on the succor of the box, that’s how Amazon describes it.

Though there are better Pokemon seasons, Master Quest (Pokemon season 5) is by far the best Pokemon-Johto season! The season starts off the typical Pokemon-Johto fable but picks up, especially by the second half, and everything gets better from the legend to the animation (which almost goes up to par with the movies’ animation) . Finally after three LONG seasons we finally find to peruse Ash compete in the Johto League, along with some SERIOUS changes to the indicate, many you’ll never interrogate if you haven’t seen the exhibit yet.

Though I wouldn’t exactly recomend this box to non-fans, I can’t stress it enough for fans to rep it. One, the note is gorgeous outrageous for an anime box position (though Amazon.Com gives us minute to no detailed info on what the box contains as far as disks and episodes) . Two, the series itself is worth the money, and above all, Three; it’s BILINGUAL! How many years have Poke-fans awaited for the Japanese version of Pokemon to be released? A word to the wize; whether MQ is your common or least fave Pokemon season, this box could decide future releases for the Japanese version of Pokemon. We figure if this box does well, 4Kids, Viz, and perhaps Miramax and WB may settle to release more Japanese versions of Pokemon in the future, perhaps either in special Japanese-only boxes of the first four seasons and future Advanced Generation DVDs or even the past six movies and the seventh one most likely to be released in America next spring. Nothing’s definate, but depending on how well this status does, it could decide future releases of Pokemon…especially for the uncut Japanese version.

Overall, this box is a must for Poke-fans. I wish Amazon.Com would cessation being indolent and let us know more on it, but as long as it does turn out to be bilingual like they say, than it’s highly worthwhile. Both the English and Japanese versions are exceptional and feature talents from other favorite animes, but the Japanese version does offer mighty more and you’ll collect a better (and perhaps more customary) concept of Pokemon from it. Whether this box does settle future Japanese Pokemon releases in the US or not, it’s aloof worthwhile and a most-get. It’s about time Pokemon got bilingual treatment like every other anime out there, and if all goes well, this might not be the only bilingual thing for Pokemon for the future. We’ll watch, but grasp this box, if not for the great cause of the Japanese version, objective for the sheer enjoyment of Pokemon itself will execute it worthwhile!

Finally, after all this time, Warner Brothers have approach to their senses. On October 7th, we will be treated to a heftly helping of one of the greatest Christmas films to ever grace the silver camouflage…………in WIDESCREEN.

I was extremely disappointed with the previous DVD release of this film which contained a pan & scan presentation and nothing more than a theatrical trailer in the extras department.

What we have here is a special edition of this mammoth movie, which will own audio commentary from both Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Spin, a “making of” featurette, as well as other stocking stuffers which have yet to be disclosed at this exhibit time.

Being a gargantuan fan of this movie, I honestly can’t wait for this release. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” has become a holiday tradition in my home, and to be able to search for it the procedure it was intended to be seen is truly a treat for me.

Aside from the features of the disk, the film itself is the suitable gift. One of the funniest movies today which quiet withstands the test of time even 15 years later. The premise is simple. Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Slip) is hell hooked on having an faded family Christmas in his home, relatives and all. Of course, the hilarity kicks in when things open to go awry. There are so many hilarious scenes in this movie, it would be difficult to list them all. You have everything from an electrocuted cat, to a house with the brightest Christmas light reveal known to man. Let’s not forget the dried up turkey, the saucer sled and the dog/squirrel flow! There’s so distinguished more I could say to praise this movie, but if you haven’t already seen it, [I won't say more]

You really seize your life in your hands every time you sit down with a Chevy Sail film. Let’s face reality here: Chevy Creep is responsible for several of the worst movies ever made. Does it choose more than a few minutes of viewing to recognize the mind numbing folly of “Nothing But Worry,” “The Three Amigos,” and “Spies Like Us”? Hurry has positive had his truly embarrassing moments on the tremendous cover. What redeems the guy, at least in my eyes, are several films that play up to the comedian’s gleaming alecky, deadpan delivery. “Fletch,” of course, is the gold standard of Chevy Promenade films, but other movies showcase his talents honest as well. I always view “Deal of the Century” a classic Scuttle film, as well as “Nasty Play” (although the latter was more of an ensemble characterize) . But we need view no further than the four National Lampoon Vacation films to truly believe the merits of this comedian turned actor. Actually, I should say three Vacation films since the second installment, where the Griswold family went on a tour of Europe, ranks as one of the most poor stories ever establish on film. Of the three successful entries, “Christmas Vacation” is the best, perhaps even eclipsing the first movie that started it all.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! Click Here

You won’t hear the familiar strains of Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road” in “Christmas Vacation,” and there are no corpses strapped to the top of a place wagon either. Instead, the film invites us into the Griswold home for an used fashioned Christmas celebration the likes of which soon near catastrophic levels. Clark (Chevy Shuffle) and Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) Griswold, along with their disinterested kids Audrey (Juliette Lewis) and Russ (Johnny Galecki), invite the whole family over for a season filled with happiness. Clark’s parents Clark Sr. (John Randolph) and Nora (Diane Ladd) prove up, as does Ellen’s folks Art (E.G. Marshall) and Frances (Doris Roberts) . And yes, even Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) makes an appearance to attach the day. Of course, along with the family comes the inevitable frustrations and stresses everyone who has ever dealt with a reunion dreads. Clark Griswold refuses, at least initially, to drop into a morass of cynicism and despair amidst the bickering and insults. His invention of a unique milk preservative has our hero hoping his Christmas bonus will be extra gigantic this year, expansive enough so he can install an in ground swimming pool in the backyard. Unfortunately, his boss Frank Shirley (Brian Doyle-Murray) is a scrooge with plans to create the company more fiscally conservative.

While he waits for the check to near at the house, Clark embarks on several hilarious projects that haul in the belly laughs. His attempts to cloak every square slide of his house with Christmas lights is a chore requiring several falls off a ladder, pointed verbal repartees with his snotty neighbors Margo and Todd Chester (Julia-Louis Dreyfus and Nicholas Guest), and repeated failures to accept the strands to light up. The acquisition and installment of the Griswold family Christmas tree is another chore handled in Clark’s inimitable style. Imagine the pine they string up in Rockefeller Square every year, subtract roughly five feet from its height, and you have the tree Clark insists on setting up in the house. This thing is so tremendous that the branches knock out the windows when Griswold cuts the rope holding the branches together. No Yuletide season, however, would be complete without a sprint to the slopes for a sledding excursion, an event filled with disastrous implications when Griswold comes up with the shining belief to camouflage the bottom of his sled with a Teflon based substance. My accepted scenario involves Clark trapped in his attic for a few hours. He spends his time dressed up in women’s clothing (to conclude warm) watching passe home movies of his childhood. His abrupt tumble through the trap door had me laughing for hours afterwards.

The cast of “Christmas Vacation” gels fantastically, far better than any cast in the other three films. Kudos as always go to Randy Quaid as the squirrelly moocher Eddie; a film in this series impartial wouldn’t be the same without this character driving Clark to fits of distraction. Beverly D’Angelo is one of those actresses who pick up hotter and hotter with age. The linchpin of the film is, as always, Chevy Bound as the peril prone Clark Griswold. This is a role tailor made for his price of clumsy, caustic humor. I don’t know about you, but Chase’s depiction reminds me in many ways of my occupy father–he won’t listen to the advice of anyone else, his ideas are the best ideas, he tosses safety to the wind when working on risky projects, etc. But like my Dad–and probably countless other fathers–Clark is dependable and wants his loved ones to have astounding family memories. The film works so well, I suspect, because most of us instantly peep his character traits in our contain beloved family patriarchs. Especially when Clark can’t stand the pressure anymore and launches into one of his over the top tirades, again a trademark of our acquire fed up fathers.

Although the DVD carries the “Special Edition” designate, the extras are surprisingly sparse. A trailer and a commentary constitute the sum total of goodies available on the disc. Moreover, the commentary doesn’t include Chevy Hotfoot. At least you hear Randy Quaid, Beverly D’Angelo, Johnny Galecki, Miriam Flynn (Eddie’s wife Catherine), director Jeremiah Chechik, and producer Marty Simmons, but why no Clark W. Griswold? Perhaps he wanted too worthy money. His absence is sad and mars what is otherwise a expansive commentary track. I don’t even wait until Christmas to view this movie; it’s fun works year round. If you haven’t seen it yet, you ought to immediately. You’ll appreciate it.
